This work explores the textures and forms of a butterbur leaf collected from the river near the artist’s studio.
The leaf was painted with a custom mix of two parts Phthalo Blue to one part Red Oxide to achieve a deep indigo hue, then printed using a press directly onto heavy watercolour paper — a process known as monoprinting.
The technique captures the leaf’s surface in a uniquely unpredictable way, transferring its veins and subtle irregularities to the paper and creating a dialogue between the natural form and the medium.
The work reflects a direct connection to the surrounding landscape, preserving a fleeting moment from the riverbank and the quiet sense of place it holds through changing seasons.
